At long last, I've finally made some progress with my life: I switched to a new lab and told my old advisor I was leaving. Things aren't exactly straightened out yet - my former advisor is pretty mad, I have to clean out my desk pronto, and I should definitely email my old labmates to let them know what happened - but it's a start, and I'm so relieved. This week I'm going to start taking two classes that will be relevant to my new lab, and hopefully I'll also get a better sense of what I'll be working on, short term, which will probably just involve training on new equipment and maybe shadowing a more experienced student. But I have a new lab! And the students in it are happy! And maybe I'll stop feeling useless now, and get a graduate degree in engineering rather than skiing (been 4 times this month, and counting)!
In other news, I've also had two busy weekends of seeing friends from college: Renato visited last weekend, and Josh (Szebenyi, not LJ) flew out earlier this evening. Between those visits, I've eaten well, drunk well, and talked more politics than could possibly be good for me. But it was fun while it lasted.
