the Alcazar

September 12, 2004

Terrible photo of a great event - outdoor flamenco held in the gardens of the Alcazar (yes, there's one in Cordoba too - I think it's the Arabic word for fortress, but I don't know why the Cordoba one is called that since it was built by Christians). The setting is magical - a little stage and a bunch of chairs set up in the middle of beautiful gardens and fountains lit up with floodlights. We went both nights we were in Cordoba. I really liked the guitar the first night and the dancing both nights, but the speakers were set so loud that the singing was unbearable - half the audience was holding their ears. However, one can only complain so much about a free performance and a chance to see the gardens at night.
