Cathedral of Sevilla

Ignore the tourists and look at the shadowy figures above them - these are two of the four carved pallbearers (representing famous people whose names I didn't catch while eavesdropping on a guide giving an informative tour in Spanish) who hold Columbus's purported tomb on their shoulders. I say "purported" because apparently two other sites - one in the Dominican Republic, the other in Cuba, if I remember correctly - also claim to house his remains, which traveled nearly as much as he did and were at various times in both other locations - assuming the body traveling around was actually his. It seems that there is currently a set of DNA tests underway to figure out who's who, though the coclusiveness of those results may be dubious since at least one body might belong to one of his sons, and I have no idea how easy it would be to figure that out now, given the lack of close relatives currently available to supply definitive DNA samples.
